This is my Brain on Too Many Hospitals.

A summation. If I do details I'll break down again.

Yesterday - he makes it safely to the Northeast Center by 1. Takes some tests, settles in.

Yesterday 7:30PM - Northeast calls. He is being taken to the Kingston Hospital (not the hospital he just came out of) ER. His blood gas is high, they are concerned.

Yesterday 10:30PM - He is deemed fit to return to Northeast.

Today 5:30PM, shortly after she comes back from visiting Northeast calls. He's going back to the Kingston ER. His potassium/electrolytes are dangerously low. Running tests, told to call back.

Today 7:00PM - They are running a seriously large amount of tests and expect to admit him.

After all of that, Northeast tells my mother they may not be able to keep the bed. It depends on how long they keep in in Kingston.

11:30 - Now. Still waiting for him to be admitted, still running tests.

What. the. fuck. Enough alread.

Yug

Really harsh day.

Threw up many times.

Up and down with my dad.

Just too drained to post anything.

Here's to a better tomorrow.

I Got My Something Good!

We won! Never let anyone tell you the little guy can't fight the bureaucracy and win.

Yesterday was madness. I was on and off the phone the entire day until a little after 4 when I got the call.

Wendy (the manager at BC handling the appeal) really went above and beyond and with the documentation I sent her and paperwork finally where it needed to be, she had good news.

There would be no need for an appeal. She had gotten the doctor who issued the denial based on bad information. He reviewed all the current information and reversed his decision. Approved.

Fully approved for an out-of-network place (Northeast)! We DID IT!!!

Within 48 hours my dad will be moved and brought to Northeast where he will begin continue to heal.

Senator Saland's office called me early this morning, ready and willing to step in if I wasn't getting anywhere.

Victory is mine.

I need to say thank you to all the people who have come by to comment, offered prayers and good wishes and have just all around made this a little easier to deal with. I know it's not over, I know he's going to be there for a few months but he is coming home.

Today the little guy definitely scored one.

Resolution #3

Go 365 days without a cigarette.

A lifetime includes a lot of years, I challenge myself to go one year without smoking. Just one year, if I want to smoke after the year, I can. Of course I write this fully knowing if I made it a whole year I wouldn't want to light up.

Seven days so far. First goal is to beat my last record of 120 days.

I really want to be able to breathe clearly. I'm tired of coughing and not being able to easily take deep breaths while horizontal.

It's also a double challenge. With everything going on with my dad and Blue Cross and so on, I desperately want that cig in my mouth. I want that crutch badly.

If I can get through all of it without the crutch that makes me a pretty strong-minded person.

Seven down, three hundred and fifty-eight to go!

Battle Day

I guess I'll be updating this as the day progresses but this should be the big day.

8:00AM - Got up, made cup of peach tea. Mentally prepped a few minutes.

8:35AM - Called Blue Cross Denied Claims office, got a very nice woman who looked at what she had on file and agreed with me that much info was missing. She is going to confer with the hospital and the Dr. who originally denied the claim because the info Michelle sent was incorrect. Trying for reversal of denial, if not we appeal. She requested copy of my document.

9:30 - My mother off to fax document to Joanne at Northeast, Senator Saland's mail Albany office, Kathy in Senator Saland's Poughkeepsie office and Wendy at Blue Cross. Then she's going to personally hand a copy to the President of the hospital, the head of the ICU and the nurses. I'm on phone watch.

Blue Cross had NO (zero zip zilch) indication in his file (what Michelle updates) that he had made ANY recovery. No notice of:

He's eating solid foods, they were back in feeding tube time
He's able to sit up
He's been assisted to a chair where he sat fine
Vent is down to 35% with his levels in the high 90s

So it looks like maybe - just maybe - the nightmare of it's all about the paperwork will end soon.

More updates as they happen.

Woo!  I’ve Been Tagged!

The ever-lovely Binary Blonde tagged me with a spiffy little meme thing! I never get tagged, this made my day. Thank you, Binary Blonde!

Not only do I really love these things, after that last post and today's latest crap I need a break. This could not have come at a better time.

Your mision:

Share six unimportant things/habits/quirks about yourself.

I have to post the rules so here, rules.

**Post the rules on your blog.
**Share six trivial things/habits/quirks about yourself.
**Tag six people and the end of your post and link to their blogs.
**Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
**Learn anecdotal things about your blog friend!

Now for the six things about me you don't care about!

1. I hold my breath when I drive past a cemetery.
2. I still cry almost daily over Claude's death.
3. I'd rather play an old Sega game like Shining Force or any of its variants over anytihng on PSx or any other system.
4. I'm envious of religious people and their faith. I lack faith.
5. I'm sorry I never got that coffee with SEV and now he's not right across the river anymore.
6. I constantly play with words in my head, twist them. For example, I was making use of the bathroom and the word 'kitten' was on the litterbox so I sat there thinking things like tinket, kentit and so on. No idea why, I just do it,

Do you feel enlightened yet?

Now for my tag-ees!

YummY - One of my truly favourite people on the net, YummY is real-deal amazing. She's part of Blog365 too so look YummY, you already know what one post will be about!

Bug - Another rare and shining star, Bug is also extremely busy and always seems to be on the go. I know she'll just loooooove having something else to do!

Darkstar - Because the only thing he's posted in his blog since October is to let us know he fell out of bed.

Mare - Sweet, totally insane and finally happy, go check out her site. It's new and worth saying hello to.

SEV - Because even 'unimportant' facts about SEV are fascinating and rare.

Cyli - Cyli's been on my blogroll forever and she's also doing Blog365, She too is one of the truly good ones and her blog kicks ass!

Documenting - The Paper Trail

As I was advised, I put together a document for this meeting Monday. Tomorrow we'll fax a copy to Kathy at Senator Saland's office, Joanne at the Northeast Center and the Appeal's Manager at Blue Cross. We'll leave a copy at the President of the hospital's office, with the head of ICU, Michelle's boss and his head nurse.

It will be on all the right desks come Monday morning with the 8AM appeal and then the meeting with the President and those people.

I've sat and re-read it and it's pathetic the way it's been mishandled. I know I can be a bit of a drama mama but it doesn't take much to see this is insanity.

It's being proofread by people more literate than I so yes, this copy has typos and grammatical errors. Between my head being held together by elmer's glue and my inability to adjust to a laptop keyboard I'm amazed I spelled his name right.

It's really long and I don't expect anyone to read it but a few people will want to read it so I put it behind the cut.

Screw party lines, give me a candidate who will tackle health care and they have my vote.

Michael - thank you for your email to Senator Saland. It touched me that you cared enough to do that.

I continue to fight the good fight!

Where We Don’t Need To Go

So my mother and I are about to go spend a bit of time touring the other rehab center that we are dead-set against his going to because Blue Cross says we have to.

This all seems to be the doing of the person I wrote the letter about. She's done nothing to correct the problem and in fact has made it worse with her inaction.

We have a meeting Monday (after an emergency appeal with Blue Cross) with the President of the hospital, the head of the department where this useless woman works, his doctors and head nurse.

NY State Senator Stephen Saland has returned my letter and is willing to step in and help. This man is the only person who got back to me fast.

So wish me luck, hopefully when we get back I'll explain more of what happened yesterday but it's truly amazing how stupid all of this is.

Off I go.
