A Quick Scare

Anyone found Dr. House yet?

When my mother was there before there was a scare.

He opened his eyes for a few seconds and managed to say hello (whether or not he knew who he was saying hello to is doubtful) and then he went back down. A few seconds later his blood pressure did a nosedive down to 92/28. That's low. They gave him something in his IV and about an hour later it was back up to normal. I just found out it was back up now, now *I* can breathe again.

Luckily the doctor is who the primary physician to both of them was at the hospital when it happened. He was the one who recommended the current lung specialist and he's been my dad's GP since they came up here 11 years ago. He gave her another option the lung guy didn't mention yesterday - moving him to a bigger hospital with more specialised staff and equipment.

The hospitals mentioned were: Vassar in Poughkeepsie, one in Albany I can't recall the name of and Westchester Medical Center. Personally I'm hoping for Vassar, I know it's a good hospital.

At least it was a third option. It wasn't just talk of a hospice sort of place where they live out their time on respirators, it wasn't talk of her having to 'make decisions' (crappy euphemism, aint it?), it wasn't all focusing on the worst-case-scenario. It was confirmation that it's not time to give up on Chuck.

She's on her way home now, the doctor gave her a prescription for a few 'light' valium. He wants her to sleep, she doesn't sleep or eat. I'm making her eat tonight, no choice. His blood pressure is back up to normal and he was sleeping peacefully.

Have I mentioned how much this sucks?
