Brokeback Mountain

I think I'm crazy.

Yah, I know. No shit. Har har. Seriously. I think I'm nuts and I blame it on Brokeback Mountain.

I've seen this movie. I had seen it sometime last year and for the life of me I can't remember what I saw it on and it's driving me batty.

It was last year, sometime between Christmas and Valentine's Day 2005. I was up here at my parents and it was 4 or so in the morning. I was channel hopping and I came across Heath Ledger (did I spell that right, I'm too lazy to check) and there he was hugging a guy. Hullo, what have we here. I remember saying 'wow, it's a gay cowboy movie' and I think I even mentioned it to the gotard on the phone the next day.

Imagine my surprise when I started hearing all the hysteria over this new movie about to be released. Hey, it's the same movie I saw! But how could I have seen it on a cable channel?

It could have been Sundance or IFC or one of those but I haven't been able to find any record or note of it being played anywhere. I know it's not important in the big picture but it's one of life's little mysteries and it's bothering me. I would love to know I'm not nuts, I did not imagine gay cowboys and solve the great mystery.

So if anyone has a clue, please enlighten me and thank you in advance. And what the hell, anyone who got here through googling the movie, give a gal a break and link to me! I promise to reciprocate immediately.

  1. Well, I am pretty sure it played at both Sundance and IFC. It is also a short story that ran in the New Yorker some time ago. It can also be found in Annie Proulx’s collection of short stories called Close Range. (She also wrote The Shipping News if you’re familiar with it.) I am going to go and see this movie this weekend, I have been looking forward to it for a long time. I’ve loved the story ever since it ran in The New Yorker. I am also going to see Memoirs of a Geisha because I just have a thing for seeing movies based on books I like.
