Cats - Good.  People - Bad.

So yesterday the Gotard saves these two kittens that were drowning in a drainage ditch behind his store. Neither of us has experience with kittens, he wasn't sure what to do with them, I wasn't sure what to do with them but given as how we much prefer cats to people, we decided to do the right thing.

(continues inside, with pictures) So he gets out of work at 9 and goes running around with these two kittens in the back of the car to get some kitten milk and crap. Mind you, they were all set up to go to the vet this morning but like new parents, we bought out the store.

He gets back to the house and he's about to bring them in when he comes in looking stunned, motioning for me. I go to the door and what the HELL!?!?!?

Seems Martin's cat had her kittens last night. Right outside OUR door in the plastic box with the blanket it in we keep out there for ... well, I guess kitten birthing.

I have never been in close proximity to newborn kittens, we're talkin' placenta and all here. There were 6 of them, one was dead but the other 5 were all mewing like hungry mofos. We got Martin and he took them downstairs. Back to our strays.

The grey one might have been hurt, it wasn't really moving much and it was shivering. Gotard got it out of the box and he was holding it so I went to grab the dark grey and white one.

BOING! I swear on my Goddess I have never seen anything move so bloody FAST! That kitten was gone in the blink of an eye, under the table. Gotard finally had to pick up the table and out came the kitten but BOING it was gone again, behind the fridge... I say it again, I have N E V E R seen anything move like ath..

Meanwhile Gotard's laughing at me because I'm almost in tears, I'm a failure at kitten mothering because I let the thing get away.

Finally collected the beastie and got it back in the box. I didn't want to get too close or let Claude too close since I have no clue if they're healthy or not but I let him sniff.

Was a long night with little sleep and a lot of meowing.

They are currently at the vet getting checked, de-wormed and vaccinated. July's rent has just been re-delegated to pay for cat care and Dom will have to suck it up.

Took a few pictures of them, Refugee Meows.

All in all, it seems I have a lot to learn about kittens.

OY.

  1. My dad use to save small kitties. Fist, dont scare them and talk nicely with them...and move slow. Give them some milk and some food. Pat them and dont let Claude near them, they have to get allong with you first. If they are hiuding somewhere lure them with food and sweet words, they find out soon enough you are their friend. And finaly stay stay next to them while sleeping and pat them for a while. wink
They looks small but they are like 4 weeks old. You’ll do find with them wink

Good luck to both of you and congrats for your new pets.

  2. well crap! We did NONE of those things. We chased them all over the place as they tried to run. Claude jumped in the box with them at one point in time and stepped on their heads.... I need to do an extensive blog on this one day… or maybe CLAUDE should… Hmmmmm....

BTW… No one mentioned the present of 5 newborn kittens outside left like a present…

  6. Well hello there Webkitty..
Very cute kitties.. I think you will do fine as a kitten momma.. Do not be surprised if Claude starts actin like the antichristcat.. When I brought my Trouble home I thought that my alpha female biotch was going to need serious doses of prozac. She was not very happy that I had brought this intrusive little creature home.. After a few days and many beatings by her paws they became friends and now actually get along well.. Do not be discouraged it only gets better… Just watch under your feet. Kittens tend to get into everything.  Close all drawers and cabinets.  They will get locked in if you don’t watch closely.

  7. Well look who it is!!

This, my dear readers is one of possibly 5 people who has lived through all this shit with me.  A partner in crime, a consort in sleazing, a confidante and a true friend.

    Welcome to the warbles, WO-MAN
