Holding Out
I have two books I desperately want to read but I'm holding back on. One I've had for a while and I'm impressed with my control. The other I got for Christmas and it's killing me already.
Currently I'm just about done with Silent Witness. I'm reading it slow, I spent a lot of time waxing philosophical watching the Terri Schiavo story unfold and reading Blogs of Terri so I'm taking the book slow and digesting all the facts. I'll probably do Serendipities next, it's short so I might be able to understand what the blazes he's talking about.
These two are haunting me though.
One is The Closers, this is the one I've had since the Summer. I fell in love hard with the Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch character and Connelly's writing style. Rumour has it this might be the last Bosch novel and I can't bring myself to read it in case it is. I did this one right, read the series from start to this one and dammit, I just can't do it.
The other one is harder to resist. It's Creepers by David Morrell. I owe a lot to David Morrell, if it wasn't for David Morrell I never would have heard of the Knights Templar, monastic warriors or the Freemason connection. I was young when I chanced upon the Brotherhood of the Rose, Fraternity of the Stone and League of Night and Fog in my dad's store and took them. Most people don't know of Morrell and if they do it's because they actually read the Rambo series.
All those aside, it was his one attempt at a horror novel that to this day remains my all time favourite contemporary horror novel. The Totem. I got the unedited version when it came out in 94 and it blew my mind once again, a thousand times more. Without monsters or ghouls of the supernatural kind, Morrell managed to really creep me out and make me look twice into the woods. It's the only novel I've ever started to convert into an area for the MUD.
He's written another thriller and it's Creepers. I know once I start it no one will hear from me for a few days as I lock myself in the room and read but I just want to savour the sweet torture of knowing a gem is waiting for me. Thank you, David Morrell.
Look, I've linked all the appropriate links! This is part of my whoring in 2006 campaign. I have blind optimism that someone will do the google voodoo and end up here and say 'hey, what a pithy blog, let me link her!" Marauding Marsupial in 2006 or bust!
I've also heard something about it being the week to de-lurk and leave comments on blogs one visits so of course I ask now that if you're here on purpose or by accident, you leave a comment and say hey. I shall respond quickly, with doughnuts.
I forgot how wonderful it is to turn off the world of technology and simply read.

Well I -was- allowing others a chance at the free doughnuts, but apparently everyone is being stingy, for shame you make baby jesus weap.
