Michael Connelly
I love a good crime novel with a strong hero (or anti-hero in some cases). Good ones are hard to find, I grew up on Rex Stout and others of his ilk. For those new to me, my dad is a rare book dealer and his specialty is mysteries. Our house as always more library than house and I was reading at an early age.
I don't really like the mainstream authors, they're good but I'm picky.
Last year while I was visiting my folks, my dad gave was going on and on about a series he was reading by Michael Connelly. I had seen Blood Work and enjoyed it, I took the book my dad was reading after he was done and figured I'd skim a few pages. 4 hours later I was still reading and a fan was born.
Oh, it was The Poet.
Harry Bosch is Connelly's flawed hero and he's easy to believe and extremely well written out. I made the mistake of reading my first 5 Connellys out of order, I've started over and am currently up to 8 of 13 (Blood Work).
I would absolutely recommend Michael Connelly to anyone who enjoys a gritty detective novel but don't make the mistake I did, start from the beginning and stick to series order.
