Movie Review - Capote
Every so often I get to watch a movie that really hits me. In between the "Night of 1000 Cats" and "Flesh Eater" there has to exist a truly good movie. My father and I found that today in "Capote."
I've always loved "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and I've always found Capote a troubled tragic soul whose life was snuffed out too early due to booze and drugs. Tragic figures intrigue me. He was a brilliant writer and I've always been tickled by Harper Lee being his research assistant. I don't know why, long running "Mockingbird" thing of mine.
This movie was superb. It restores my faith when a movie with minimal to no special effects can be so powerful. There were no superheroes, no fast car chases, no gratuitous sex. It didn't need it. It started out with a fascinating story and it kept the pace the entire movie.
Everyone in the cast was excellent. I grew up on "In Cold Blood," it's hard to even come close to Robert Blake's performance but the actors portraying Smith and Hickock did so with style, it was no effort at all to get lost in this movie and it went by fast.
It gave me a glance inside Capote's mind, how it changed his life in a way he was never able to change back and how it could easily be thought that it ruined him, ruined his spirit and doused the light that burned inside.
This is an all around fantastic movie. It's sad, it's intense, it's deeply concerned with the human issue. It's a gripping and captivating movie and I can easily see how he got the Oscar.
This one will be watched again and again and again.

I loved that movie too. Very intense!
Phillip Seymour Hoffman TOTALLY deserved that Best Actor Oscar. He
embodied that character completely.Shellz on 04/13 at 11:45 AM -
I probably wont see it, just like I didn’t see The Avaitor. I dont like such movies. I need my dose of active fiction.

I’ve heard this movie is pretty good, but I haven’t made it out to see it yet. He was a fascinating person, wasn’t he?

i felt the same way about fun with dick and jane. but that’s just me and i’m a non-active stoner chick. that aside - have you seen good night and good luck? also powerful. in the capote way, i mean.

I have Good Night and Good Luck, I got it with Capote. I haven’t watched it yet, I’m looking forward to it. Now I’m waiting for Hostel and Munich to come out, talk about different ends of the Spectrum.
