Movies
I'll probably get roasted for this but I am soooo tired of superhero and comic book movies. Yes, yes, I know. I appreciate the special effects and all but call me a freak, I can't deal with them. Whatever happened to that good old movie without special effects, that had a gripping plot?
Or is it that the minds today can't come up with anything original or fill a few hours with enough excitement to make the money and still entertain?
My DVD list is lacking in comic book superhero movies and there aint much comedy either. I like PLOT. I like to have to think when I see a movie, especially if I'm supposed to lay out 10 bucks for it. I don't want everything spoon fed to me through special effects. I want to walk out of the theatre puzzling over what I just watched.
Remakes and first-makes based off other people's creative ingenuity, it doesn't impress me.
My DVD list is here if anyone wants to see what a warbler watches.
I know, everyone loves Spiderman and the X-Men and all that, I respect that. But but but...
Give me Sunset Boulevard, On the Waterfront, 12 Angry Men or a good psychological drama anyday!

12 Angry Men is excellent. I also like To Kill a Mockingbird, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (so sue me, I like it), Army of Darkness (go Ash!), LadyHawke (look, I just made you think of Rutger Hauer again).

No roasting here! I can enjoy the superhero/comic movies if they’re the better ones (some have been trash), but I really do miss sitting down and getting lost in plot and would trade all of the comic ones for a single good plot flick.

I’m a lover of all kinds of film. Although I do have to say Sunset Blvd is also one of my top favs. Actually, that’s the movie that got me interested in black and whites.
Thanks for the sponsorship! +o)

I could never watch Sunset Boulevard without getting the willies. When she’s coming down the staircase and staring into the camera for her closeup is all psycho, she freaks me still. Plus a dead man narrator is eerie.

Movies have, by and large, been pretty brain dead for a while. I don’t think you’ll find much argument, excepting perhaps those who hold Paris Hilton up as the epitome of society.

And i thought i was the only nutcase to still like Midsomer Murders.

Holy shit, I have two boxed sets of Midsomer Murders sitting here!
*hugs to you* You never cease to amaze me!

Kill the Superheros and the comic books, I must agree they have gone wild with these in the past five years, and of course I enjoy them, but so many, give me a break. Goes along with all the REMAKES, haven’t you noticed people, Hollywood has ran out of movies, they’ve turned to comic books and that is all that is left. Pick up a book, Reading Is Power!
As for special effects, I feel a movie has the right to have it, but today’s special effects are too easy, its a computer, hell, I could make them. I’d like to see a movie with old school special effects, like Army of Darkness of the Evil-Dead Trilogy (aka Directed by Sam Raimi who’s now a big shot with his Spiderman movies...). In that movie since they didn’t have the budget, they used special effect techniques from eons ago, the skeleton warriors are from Jason and the Juggernaught or something like that. Anyways, I’m far behind on the thon, I must continue to read.

I understand you very well. You know there are too many heroes, super actors and great effects that we practically can’t find a real film with real human emotions and feelings.
