Not Looking Good
So far I am less than thrilled with what I've seen of Fall television.
I'm reality show-ed out, I can't stand anymore. I've let myself get sucked into Rock Star INXS but that's only because Marty is both drop-dead sexy and talented. I'll watch American Idol when it starts up again but that's it for me and reality TV. I can't stand it, I can't take stupidity. Donald Trump? Martha? More biggest losers? Mr. Dad? Perfect Joes? God save the Queen.
I was sorely disappointed in Bones. Along with it ending my fantasy hopes of an Angel movie that would tie up the very open ends they left it with, the show just wasn't good. They could have started with something other than a murdered intern and it was way too much of her and way too little of him. She's nothing special, I would imagine most people watching would be watching for him. I'll give it another shot but I'm not enthused.
I was also nonplussed with House. Who did they owe a favour to that got paid off by writing the opening episde of House? It was preachy, House doesn't do preachy well. House does obnoxious and obsessive well. I like House, it's one of the few shows I really enjoy and I hope they don't stay on this preachy road.
(more inside!) I can't stand Family Guy, I won't waste one second past this to discuss Family Guy. I can see where people like it but to me it's predictable and common. Let's give a baby an English accent and make him nasty, it's not exactly original stuff here. I have respect for Seth MacFarlane (did I get that right?) but he's no Mike Judge or Matt Groening or Matt and Trey. Common. Very common.
I don't do sitcoms, period. The only exception to my staunch hatred of all things sitcom is Two and a Half Men. I'm looking forward to that, it's funny. That kid is too damn cute with those cheeks and the cast works well together. I'll give How I Met Your Mother a try because of Alyson Hannigan and Doogie, that could be amusing. Besides those two, I like Bernie Mac and Malcolm in the Middle even though I never watch them until it's repeat time. I just don't see much funny stuff in sitcoms, they're written for morons. Frasier was an intelligent sitcom, it can be done but people take the easy road and go for stupid sex jokes and common crap that a trained monkey could have thought up.
I did, however, enjoy Supernatural. That may be the one show this season I end up adopting. It had some good banter between the brothers, good scare factor and it was pretty well written. It had that ST- Next Gen problem of wrapping things up too quickly and too neatly in the last few minutes (ever notice that with Next Gen? 58 minutes of dire conflict is quickly and easily wrapped up in the final 2 minutes) but it was sufficiently creepy and the brothers play well off each other. This one I'll watch again and am actually looking forward to.
My Name is Earl looks worth checking out.
Law & Order killed me last season with the new female ADA, she's horrid. I can't believe Angie Harmon chose to do some lamer hospital show (babies, always with the stupid babies) rather than go back to Law & Order. It's still my holy grail though and I won't knock it, lightning will come from above and kill me.
At least they're brining Chris Noth and Annabella Sciorra to Criminal Intent, hopefully it's step one in getting rid of Donofrio. He's bad. Baaaaaaaad. Hokey. I like Chris Noth, I like Mike Logan, I like Annabella Sciorra. They had the wisdom not to mess with SVU, that show is fine just the way it is.
E Ring or whatever it's called will also be worth watching but that's a Dennis Hopper thing. I'd watch anything he did whether it sucks or not so I'll try to be honest with that one.
I gave up on CSI when they stopped caring about plots and went only for the shock or gross-out value. I think it was somewhere around the plushies. Too much internal drama and gross-out, they lost the cool CSI end of it. I never liked CSI Miami, I can't listen to the blonde talk for more than 10 seconds without squeaking and David Caruso isn't all that much of an actor. CSI New York pisses me off, don't have a New York themed show and film it in LA. I guess that's the Law & Order snob in me talking but it's so ..... fake. I love Gary Sinise but not on television.
MI-5 will be coming out on A&E soon but I'm not sure I can watch MI-5 anymore since they killed Danny off. I'm still mentally damaged over that.
I'll watch ER when it premiers, I've loved ER for so many years.. It's hard to admit the fascination is fading but last season wasn't that great. I got more into Without a Trace, I really like Without a Trace.
Of course most of these will be watched in the wee hours of the morning, whatever did I do before DVR? I'd rather watch Fox News or Keith on MSNBC or Law & Order reruns during primetime and then I watch the other stuff late at night after Gotard goes to bed.
I'll have to come back after I watch some of these and warble on them.
Oh lord, look at that. Survivor tonight. I think I'll pass.

I managed to surprise myself with one show. I watched a few episodes of Medium, and actaully enjoyed them. It’s at least self consistant.

That’s funny because the only reason I really like Criminal Intent is because D’Onofrio is in it. I think his physical movements and reactions are fabulous. He’s a cutey, too.
I have to agree that most tv sucks nowadays. Other than the animation you mentioned, King of Hill, The Simpsons, and South Park, there is really nothing of interest out there for me.

I read it, I actually enjoyed what you wrote more than the show. I’ll keep reading your take(s) on it and that should do it for me.

Hi there - You came by my site last week from Michele’s, but unfortunately, I went on vacation the next day, so it’s taken this long to return the visit. I just posted on Supernatural this morning and couldn’t agree more with your assessment. I’m going to give it a shot. We seem to have some things in common with our viewing, though my two addictions are 24 and Lost. I’ve heard Earl is supposed to be hilarious.
