Terrorist Teens?  This is Meshugenah!

Ok, here is the official news story.

I think the world has gone nuts. Ok, this not a revelation but I really think the world has gone crazy. This is just plain crazy.

First, let me state right off the bat that I don't think these kids should walk away without anything happening to them. Forget 9/11 for a minute, this is a post Columbine world and you can't sit with your friends and make hit lists of students and teachers you want to pick off. They deserved to be prosecuted and along with that, given the psychological help their apparently blind parents didn't give them.

But terrorism? Terrorism? What the Hell?

They didn't even have any guns. Yes, one was caught trying to purchase a handgun but basically you're telling me the other three were arrested as terrorists for speech. The terrorist law carries a minimum sentence of 30 years if convicted. For speech.

I can't associate these kids with the men who flew the planes on 9/11. I can't associate these kids with Timothy McVeigh. This is not terrorism.

Now please, my heart is not bleeding for these kids here. Were it up to me, I'd prosecute the parents for incompetent parenting. I refuse to believe that an alert parent can't see something is wrong with their kid. Not wanting to see it or pushing pills to get rid of it is not fulfilling the parental responsibility. I think these kids need a lot of counseling and some discipline. But I don't see the logic in taking a 14 year old and sending him to an adult prison for 30 years for speech.

It's a scary thing when this is what this country is coming to and don't give me any shit about it being the evil Republicans or GW or any of that spin. I'm not pointing fingers at any politician or party, I'm pointing a finger at my country and asking what the Hell is wrong here. Doesn't anyone find it scary when speech lands you under arrest for terrorism? Something is seriously wrong here.

I'm going to follow this case closely, this really bothers me. This is negligent parents and seriously disturbed kids with criminal tendencies, not terrorism.

Call off the witch hunt.

  2. When I hear about this stuff, I am SO glad that I live in Canada. Things are seriously out of control down there...and terrorism is just another tool used to promote an agenda and culture of fear. It’s very easy to see, when you are not living inside of it.

Those kids are just another symptom of a system that is just doesn’t work anymore - if we lived in a kinder, more compassionate world, these kinds of things wouldn’t happen! I mean, how do you spend trillions of dollars killing people on the other side of the world, yet have people living under the poverty line, starving and out of work, in your very own country? How do you go to war in the name of democracy, which entails basic rights and freedoms (like speech), yet create legislation like the Patriot Act, which sets these rights back hundreds of years??

You should see V for Vendetta. Although it’s set in Britain, it’s very timely. It deals with these same issues in a very thought provoking way.
