The Purpose Driven Kittyn

(thank you for not groaning, Monty!)

I finally did it. I watched an MSNBC special on Rick Warren and it aroused my curiosity.

I became one of the millions to order the Purpose Driven Life and matching leather journal.

I was intrigued by some of what I heard, when he talked about life not being about you and when you come to understand that there is clarity I looked at Darkstar and said 'holy shit, that's me..' I've tried to live my life that way for as long as I can remember - with the faith that there was a much bigger picture than myself and my part in the grand scheme was that of enhancer. I know that's vague, sorry. I can't really explain it and I know I'm giving the Nasties fodder but it's time to stop worrying about that.

I'm not looking for God, I'm not looking for Jesus. I've got my religious views. I'm comfortable with them and they work for me. I don't want to read this book in a religious sense. On the special they did a segment about people who read it for the spiritual instead of the religious, I want to be one of those folk. I'm not sure if I can still take in as much if I take God out of the equation but I shall try.

It seems like I can from what I've skimmed. God put you here for a reason. Alright, what if it's not God in the accepted sense. In life there are shepherds and there are sheep. Few ever ascend to true shepherdship and it's not always a good thing. A shepherd can be anyone from Nelson Mandela to Hitler to the teacher who takes the time and effort to make sure the students learn and grow, impacting their lives forever. It's a form of pre-destination I suppose, Calvin had some good ideas. But that doesn't necessarily mean I believe God set all this up. Some form of otherly being but not the traditional God or Satan.

To remove God still works - someone or something placed people among the masses who are to stand out and make a difference. Ok, same idea but no God. We can work with this.

I sound like I'm anti God, I'm not. I have a lot of respect for people's religious beliefs and I envy those who can put blind faith in a benevolent deity. I'm just not looking to read this in a God sort of way.

I haven't started the book yet. I'm willing to give it the 40 days as suggested and with the surgery next week I'll miss a day or two so I'm waiting until that's over with but I'm willing to clear my mind and follow his plan, sans God.

I'm prattling again, it's been a while since I prattled. Always bad to prattle about religion, guaranteed to piss someone off. My apologies to whichever someone I tweak.

Have any of you read the Purpose Driven Life and if so, what was your feeling after finishing it? I would be really interested in your perspective.

1. yeppers I did read it, and I loved it…

   I don’t think reading it “Sans God” will actually give you the same results, as I read it “Avec God”. However, taking the time to do something to improve your life, or someone’s around you is always always a good thing. So even if you don’t find “The Meaning of life” Maybe you can take something away from it to use down the road!

2. I have heard of this concept.. but I’m a person whom neither “The Alchemist”, or “Jonathan Livingston Seagull”, or “The Monk who Sold..” really made any sense to, deep down. Answers people want are usually around them, they just don’t see them all the time.
   As far as God and that entire mess goes, I’m not the most clear person. There are some things I do for the sake of people around me.. and some I do because I want to test them out. Time will tell, as I suspect it does for most of us.
