This Irks Me

I'm a news freak. I love news, I have the news channels on most of the day. I find that Fox News, while definitely geared towards the right, tends to be the first network to break stories.

I enjoy news. I love the political chaos going on now and let's face it, the world is an interesting place.

I do not enjoy putting on what is supposed to be a serious news channel only to hear about Britney's divorce. I didn't give a crap about Brad and Jennifer's divorce, Reese and Ryan - what the Hell? They have gossip shows for this crap, what is it doing on the serious news channels? Why do people care about Britney's divorce? Goes for Fom Fuise too, I was ready to slit my throat before the spawn was hatched.

Stop it. STOP THE INSANITY.

The decline of civilisation is upon us.

  1. I agree wholeheartedly.  Though I linger over CNN over the other two and shun the Network news as the plague.

I can’t stand it when they do hours of coverage of schlock like this.  I could care less about the boil on the backside of some celebrity that they are clandestinely getting removed by some rat in a back alley surg unit.  I don’t care about so and so marrying such and such… don’t care about dipstick #1 leaving dipstick #2 and wanting alimony etc.  Can’t they leave this stuff for Entertainment Tonight and Extra (both which I refuse to watch).

I understand this stuff gets ratings… but its not really news in my way of thinking.  These people are merely celebrities… they are human… its not so significant when anyone else gets married or has a baby.. why does it matter when they do it.  It certainly doesn’t merit more than a few second mention in the Entertainment blurb of the newscast to me.

I also don’t care for over reporting on one topic.  Remember the Jon Mark Karr follow from the plane to the court, yada yada yada ad nauseum.  Yes he was news… yes hes a freak job… BUT do we need to see every second of coverage of him when you have no new information?  Come on, break off to other stuff going on, the world didn’t stop just because some mental head case pedophile wanted a free plane ride from Asia back to the States.

All three cable news need to get a grip.  There’s no hope for the network news whatsoever.

  2. I’m so with you. Just the sound of their names makes me cringe.

  3. I stopped watching the news back during the whole jLo/pDiddy circus.
I figured if THAT was all I was gonna hear about I’d might as well read Cosmo and get better coverage.

  4. Media is no longer interested so much in presenting news, people working there are more preoccupied with the sensational. It seems as if there were no more place for professionals in nowadays media.

  5. I have NOTHING to do with news unless I find something weird online, but even I have to say, celebrity drama does not equal news in any way.

  6. I’m a news freak too. I drive people crazy because the news is on my television even if I’m not watching. My 2½ year old son can identify “Wolf” and “Cokie” just as easy as he knows who “Elmo” is. I just bought a new stereo and it’s barely been broken in. I have CDs that I bought a year ago but I haven’t heard them yet. It’s because I have more important things to hear. I haven’t heard those things yet, but they must be coming soon. I’m positive. I grew up on Walter Cronkite and I’m waiting for those immortal words, “and that’s the way it is.” I just know it’ll happen soon so don’t anybody touch that dial! Somebody please tell me the way it is!
