Word to the Mother

Yes, yes I did steal the title from Heide on the Chaos Wastes forums. It fits.

I just wanted to wish all the mothers who pass by here a happy mother's day. Anyone who knows me knows how strongly I feel about family and the impact family has on how a kid turns out. Being a mother is a damn hard thing to do and do well. It was hard for my mother's mother way back when, it was hard for my mother and it's hard for the mothers of today. I don't know if I could do it.

I know it's a greeting card inspired holiday but I don't see anything wrong with a say set aside for appreciating mothers and what they do. And mother doesn't have to be a biological term, there are many mothers who are the true meaning of the word yet never gave birth.

So all the mothers and yet to be mothers out there, I say thank you for caring about your children and for putting their needs and wants so far above your own. To my own mother I thank her for a lifetime of wisdom and compassion and for being a mother AND a best friend.

And to my little Templeton who surprised me this morning with a little bag full of mother's day goodies, I love ya right back my rat-cat.
