Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad
Today was a rough day. Today was the 48th anniversary of my parents getting married. As you can imagine, my mother was in a pretty bad way today. She did damn good for someone who was suffering though, I give her a lot of credit. Seems they had made plans when my dad got out of the hospital, he promised he would take her out for dinner for their 48th. It just sucks.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Theirs was not the typical marriage or the typical love after 48 years. It's a double-edged sword as it brought my mother 48 years of joy and love but what she's enduring now I wouldn't wish on anyone. I had no words to offer, saying things like 'he's still with you' or 'remember the good times' are all logical and correct but also the last words anyone in mourning and hurting deeply wants to hear. So I did my best to make her laugh and Darkstar promised to come up on Sunday which always makes her a bit happier.
Their married life was a dream, their wedding was a dream. A massive affair at a fancy place with good food, a ton of guests and a wonderful time.
Happy 48th, Mom and Dad. I'm sorry it didn't turn out the way it was supposed to and Dad, you're still missed today as the night you left us in January and I love you.
Now some pictures.
My mother's engagement photo for the newspaper because every proper young woman had to be announced in the NY Times.

My mother the blushing young bride (and yes, she was a virginal young bride at that!)

The whole family with my folks in the middle.
