Rolly Update! Meow News!
Yes, once again the spelling of her name has changed. We were never really set on a spelling and they listed her as "Rolly" at the vet so Rolly it is.
She was dropped off this morning and the head honcho of the place himself decided to take her. There are 5 or so vets there but it's his hospital and he's a busy man, I wasn't expecting that.
I need to stop second guessing myself all the time, I really do. I need to learn to trust that inner voice again.
Rolly is fine. I repeat, the girl is fine and has become the star of the hospital as the vet said 'this is one friendly cat, she's really giving out the loving.'
It was neither growth or tumor. It was severely matted, disgusting hair that had formed into a sausage-looking hard mass. Gross. Really gross.
It seems the flies had been laying all their eggs in this mass of solidified hair-sausage. With all the rain lately while the rest of her coat dried the mass remained wet and the flies went on an egg-laying bonanza. Even more gross.
However, he said to me 'you got it just in time.' The eggs had not yet hatched! Apparently the eggs hatch pretty damn fast and had we waited even one more day in this heat the eggs would have hatched. Even more more gross. He commended me on getting it so quickly, I told him yesterday was the first day I saw them literally swarming her.
The worst thing she had was a really bad infestation of ear mites which could have caused her lethargy, I guess it would throw me off too if I had a gazillion nasty mites crawling around deep in my ear canals.
She tested negative for feline leukemia and feline HIV and no one could believe it but she didn't have one single flea anywhere on her.
She was shaved on her back to get rid of the sausage-hair and checked thoroughly for critters. She's been given all sorts of medications and ointments and stuff to ward off bot flies and other disgusting things. Her ears were totally cleared of mites. She was vaccinated as per NY state law. She was trimmed and combed head to toe as they were looking for ticks and apparently she loved every minute of the attention.
She is currently enjoying the good life for a few more hours in the air-conditioned hospital with a whole lot of people giving her attention.
The bill wasn't bad. It'll eat all of what's left of my money for August but for the peace of mind it's worth being broke for a month. They did a LOT of work on her and the shot and tests alone are pricey so I was actually blown away when he told me the whole bill was $251. A happy, healthy cat is worth a whole lot more than that. I'll get by.
I'm so glad we didn't wait to get her in. I want to thank everyone who took the time yesterday and today to comment and send concern and care. It's amazing how an animal can bring such concern out in people and I was a mess yesterday. Thank you for being there for me and for all your words of wisdom and support. I'm glad I took everyone's advice and did the right thing and did it fast.
Most of all I'm glad that Rolly is okay and will be coming back in a few hours without any disgusting guests attached to any parts of her stubby little body.
