Viva Laughlin, Viva HUGH, a Pox on CBS.

I know this post is going to get me laughed at but that's purrfectly fine. I'm secure.

Very rarely do I get completely and fanatically into a television show. It hasn't happened since Nero Wolfe on A&E. There are shows I watch and shows I enjoy but even those don't make me want to get up and dance a jig of TV happiness.

When I do find one of those gems I get really into it. Hard. I drive everyone around me crazy with constant talk of the show, the cast, the plot. They pat me on the head, give me a cookie and are kind enough to pretend they're interested.

I found one this season. I watched it fully expecting to hate it and was so mesmerised by it I was hooked in the first five minutes.

I'm talking about Viva Laughlin.

Yes, Viva Laughlin. Laugh all you want.

It was campy. It was bizarre. It was borderline weird when they broke out in song.

But it was FUN.

It was well choreographed. Lloyd Owen can sing really well. And then there was Hugh. Hugh, sweet Hugh. Hugh, who can do no wrong. The opening 20 minutes with the two of them each doing their song was like Heat Miser and Snow Miser, it was campy insanely fun television.

They pulled it after a mere two episodes because America needs one more stupid Desperate Housewives or Grey's Anatomy spinoff with plastic characters and no plots besides gratuitous sex (what the hell is a McSteamy? More like McYuck).

It was taken from a show in England that's well received and Hugh himself expected it to go longer than it did.

Not everything has to make sense, this was a quick hour of quirky weirdness and I put a hex on CBS.

Here, look at Hugh. An amazing song and an amazing Hugh.

You got it wrong, CBS.

BRING BACK VIVA!
